The 85 mm F1.8D lens is one of the Nikon bargains. (3X less costly) This lens is fast, fairly small, and it focuses quickly and accurately, nice bokeh and render good skin tones. It is bit soft at wide open but works great for portraits.

If you ask yourself if you really need this lens... then you don't need it (maybe the D version instead).
Sharpness incredible stopped down and very good to great between f/1.4 and f/2.8
LoCA; would need a bit more sharpness in the center wide open; a bit plasticky feeling (but I can guarantee it won't give up as easily as genotypewriter thinks
the best portrait lens ever I have used
Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Nice Bokeh; Rugged; Strong Construction

The Nikkor AF-S 85mm f/1.4G was announced August 2010. It's the longest of four prime lenses sporting an f1.4 focal ratio in Nikon's current range, with the 50mm, 35mm and 24mm completing the line-up.
I've never seen anything like it. Completely different sharpness and strong colours to my other Nikon lenses. I compared previous photos to my new shots. Did a set of Brisbane around Fortitude Valley, impromptu portrait shots when a neighbour came over with his daughter, portrait of guitar playing,...
This AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 lens is Superb in Every way, Excellent in Low Light situation. Quality is solid and found the Focus Quick and Accurate. A much for taking Potraits. The Sharpness and bokeh are Obsolutely incredible Razar Sharp. Excellent piece of lens to Own.
Pros: Reliable, Lightweight, Durable, Easy To Use Cons: Other thoughts: Great lens, love it.
Image quality from this lens is excellent throughout. At 1.4 it can be a little soft but that's to be expected. Skin tones are fantastic and very flattering due to the slightly warm tint it produces. The AF is very accurate and consistent although not particularly fast.
Bokeh; Great Picture Quality; Skin Tones
