Bokeh here we come!

This lens instantly makes your photo's better whatever your level of ability. I have only recently started getting more serious about photography, having bought a DSLR as an upgrade from my bridge camera, and this lens makes even shots from an amateur look like they have been taken by a pro.

Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S Nikkor review by Prime Minister

Like the AF-S 85mm f/1.8G, this AF-S 50mm f/1.8G is a nice surprise. And an affordable one too. Sharpness and contrast in the center are very good already at f/1.8 (really) and stopping down the whole image becomes nice and sharp at f/2.8.

Sharp; faster auto focus; small; light; affordable; recessed front lens

Vignetting at f/1.8

Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.8 G (FX) - Review / Test Report

The Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.8 G is a very solid performer that delivers very good to excellent sharpness across most of the FX frame. Typical for a fast prime there is some vignetting wide open as well as bokeh fringing. CAs and distortion are moderate.

I can't believe I've used any other lens

This is my first lens besides the 18-55mm non-VR kit lens that I use with my D3000. I am just beginning to expand my photography and I cannot believe I have used any other lens besides this one. The kit lens feels barbaric! The autofocus is super fast even in low light.

Build Quality; cheap; Fast Focus; Lightweight

Soft at 18

Worthy Upgrade

The only flaw I can point at is the slight barrel distortion but at this price it still worth it. Its hardly noticeable unless you frame the edges with straight lines. The nikon 35mm 1.8g has been the worst at this but this one is almost not there.

Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G Review

This new prime lens has a very affordable price. The WDC review of the Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G discovers that its performance is impressive too

Fantastic full-frame performance

Some chromatic aberration on DX-format sensor

Awesome lens for the price

For the price this is a very good lens. I use it on my full-frame D800 with great results when stopped down to F5.6 or narrower. You can't afford to NOT have this lens if you don't have anything that does this focal length.

Price 58mm filter thread metal mount very sharp for the price

No weather sealing no depth of field indicator plastic filter thread

Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G Review

There was a time when almost every 35mm film camera came with a 50mm prime (fixed focal-length) lens because on a full-frame camera, the 50mm focal length captures roughly the same angle-of-view as is seen by the human eye.

Fantastic full-frame performance

Some chromatic aberration on DX-format sensor
