Mirror's Edge: Catalyst Review

Let me get right to the biggest question every Mirror's Edge fan is asking- does Catalyst live up to the original As someone who loved its first-person parkour action, I was dubious that an eight-years-in-the-making prequel/sequel/reboot could stick the landing.
Pros:
  • Surpasses the original by leaps and bounds
Cons:
  • Falling to my death ten times in a row on the same jump

Mirror's Edge Catalyst: review

When news of a Mirror's Edge sequel first broke, we were filled with both hope and fear. Kind of like how we might feel if it was announced that J.J.Abrams was coming back for the next Star Wars movie, but Michael Bay was doing catering and could therefore theoretically become involved with the...

Mirror's Edge Catalyst

During the extended breakaways where Mirror's Edge Catalyst settles on what it wants to be, it's an excellent and captivating game. Bounding across tightropes and high-rises as you explore the city is liberating.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst review

EA and DICE have finally launched a follow-up to cult classic Mirror's Edge; join Ben as he dusts off Faith's old red running shoes.
Pros:
  • Fantastic art and level design makes Glass a pleasure to run around
  • Highly polished parkour system
  • Combat works well in hit-and-run encounters
  • Plenty for explorers and competitive gamers
  • Puzzle-platform rooms are neat
Cons:
  • Character progression system is pointless
  • Story predictable and humourless
  • Combat doesn't work in stand-and-fight situations, which are too common
  • Side missions and activities are awfully samey
