Glides Smoothly; Works On Any Surface
Uncomfortable Design
The best portable mouse should be as small as it is functional, and Microsoft's Sculpt Mobile Mouse is both. It doesn't have any particularly exciting features like our Editors' Choice, the Microsoft Touch Mouse , though it's cheaper by comparison.
Tiny, portable design; Different colors available; Ambidextrous support; Customizable button
Windows button is hard to reach; Limited click wheel button functionality for Web browsing
It's a tidy little mouse if you just need a basic mouse for scrolling and browsing but I imagine most people will buy this for travel, which is crazy as you need to use the supplied USB dongle and have no options to pair via Bluetooth.
The best portable mouse should be as small as it is functional, and Microsoft's Sculpt Mobile Mouse($17.25 at Amazon) is both. It doesn't have any particularly exciting features like our Editors' Choice, the Microsoft Touch Mouse, though it's cheaper by comparison. The Microsoft Sculpt Mobile Mouse is great for basic use, and feels great, but the dearth of Web browsing customization options is disappointing.

Travelers or students using Windows 8 on a non-touch laptop will appreciate the compact Sculpt Mobile Mouse. Its center button helps make up for Win 8's lack of a Start menu button.
Dedicated Windows Start menu button; Installs quickly; Mini-transceiver packs into mouse for travel; Tilting scroll wheel quickly pans across Windows 8 Start tiles
Can't tweak pointer speed or snap-to in mouse-setup screen; Scroll-wheel stepping is harsh; Can't reconfigure Start menu button
Good design. Works on practically any surface.
Within a week the USB got stuck in the base. I had to pry it out with tweezers, and now it gets stuck everytime I try to put it in the base and sometimes when I use it with my docking station.
