This week marks the release of the first major dedicated motion control game for Xbox One, Kinect Sports Rivals. But with my experience with other Kinect titles, I knew what to do. First, I made sure I had several hours in the day free when I knew there wasn't going to be too much foot traffic through the living room. I moved the coffee table. I moved the central table over the coffee table for extra space.

Kinect Sports Rivals is the follow-up to Xbox 360's two Kinect Sports titles, which tried and failed to do for Microsoft's motion control camera what Wii Sports did for Wii. The games reportedly sold well, but didn't do much to establish Kinect as a must-buy peripheral.

I got this game yesterday and it's a blast! Everything works very well, there are a few hiccups, but overall it's very awesome. You will need a pretty good amount of room to play most of these games however. Wake Racing can be played sitting down, the others all require standing.

- There's potential here for fun, but until you pass the tutorials and Microsoft fixes Kinect, there's no way the game can actually achieve it.

Kinect Sports Rivals is a good game on the Xbox One but it's not the game that successfully turns Kinect into a true gaming medium.

This motion-controlled sports game is pretty meh. The variety is nice, but there are a few issues, beginning with menu screens that can be difficult to control using your hands. Creating an avatar based on your likeness seems fun to start, but the results can be somewhat random.

Ever since I picked up my Xbox One console, bundled with the new and improved Kinect 2.0, I've been excited to see where developers will be able to go with the new hardware. The new Kinect is an impressive piece of machinery.
