The original Kinect Sports for the Xbox 360 did exactly what it set out to to do. It didn't set the world on fire or reinvent gaming as we know it, but it showed that despite some gimmicky features, the Kinect actually works -- for the most part.

Your first act in Kinect Sports Rivals is to kneel in front of the Kinect 2.0, Microsoft's fat, sinister slab of a camera - but it's no act of reverence. It's been eight years since Nintendo released Wii Sports, the game that ushered in a new way to play video games using grand swipes and waggles...

Kinect Sports Rivals has some great ideas with some of the sports working great while others need a bit more work to reach their potential.

Technically speaking Kinect Sports Rivals is a far better Kinect experience than the previous two entries. But even with that, the game still feels like an under realized experience.

We were promised big things with Kinect for Xbox One - higher definition body tracking, more responsiveness, a wider field of view, and the ability to track up to six skeletons at once - but so far, there hasn't been much in the way of software to put it to good use.

Kinect Sports Rivals is the biggest next gen video game release of the year. This is the game that shows what the Xbox One, and the new Kinect sensor can do. Kinect Sports Rivals impresses right out of the gate. It scans your face and provided a video game representation.

While there is Skype, Xbox Fitness, signing in with your face, scanning QR codes or using your voice to navigate, there haven't been any (meaningful) game reasons to use your Kinect 2.0 on the Xbox One.

If you don't like Kinect there isn't near enough here to change your mind. If you enjoy Kinect, this is a solid enough game to get started on in a new generation of gaming with Xbox One.
