Despite its relatively small size, JBL Boombox has a great sound with proper bass rendition.
IPX7-waterproof. Long battery life. Potent bass and good sound quality.
No tone controls. High price tag.
Bought this for something more portable than my DJ gear so we could keep the hotel afterparties LIT af. So far so good, great sound and range, plus it's expandable similar to the Sonos for a fraction of the cost.
At Rs 27,999, JBL BoomBox is an interesting portable Bluetooth speaker and yes, it even comes with a 20,000mAh rechargeable battery.
The term ‘boombox' has had an intrinsic effect on the rise of hip-hop music. These portable audio systems were predominant in the ‘80s and ‘90s where people would tote them on their shoulder while blasting out their favourite tunes.
JBL Boombox: A thunderous outdoor Bluetooth speaker with stupendous bass
Thunderous bass; IPX7 waterproofing; Charges devices via USB
Expensive; Average sound quality at this price; Heavy
I am quite happy with this product and JBL has proven again to release good bluetooth speakers. Sound quality is good (not like Bang & Olufsen), material is ok and also battery life.
The speaker feels extremely rugged, sturdy and well-made, with good quality materials. Indoors rocks, outdoors it feels like something is missing, although still pretty loud and more than enough (unless you plan to host a party with 50+ people).
If you’ve ever seen Say Anything, the classic 1989 Cameron Crowe-John Cusack romance flick, you may have had fantasies about taking a boombox and serenading your crush in the wee hours of the morning, possibly to Peter Gabriel’s In Your Eyes. JBL’s new Boombox speaker can make that fantasy a reality — though it is a little hefty to hold above your head for hours on end. Not only is JBL’s Boombox massively powerful, it’s fully waterproof and capable of charging your phone. We put it through the wringer, and, for the most part, this stylish tube of sound proved itself worthy as a great outdoor option – if you’ve got the cash. Like most JBL products, the Boombox arrives encased in an orange-and-white cardboard box with lots of branding. It’s got more of a “fun” feel than a premium feel, but it’s a boombox, so that’s appropriate. Included with the speaker: Product literature (quick-start guide, warranty info, troubleshooting) and a two-piece, brick style power adapter. Presumably, such pow...
Bombastic bass response; Good outdoor performance; Waterproof; Charges two devices at once; 24-hour battery life;
A little heavy for backpacking or camping; Poor clarity in treble register; Limited EQ control;
The influence of the boombox on music is indisputable. These portable sound systems gave rise to sub-cultures (think breakdancing and hip hop) in the '80s and '90s. Fast-forward to today, and JBL has taken its penchant for splash-proof and portable Bluetooth audio into a bygone era with its...
Really loud and balanced sound; Water-resistant + splash-proof; 24-hour battery life
It's pricey; No audio cables included; Buzzing sound at low battery
