The HTC Vive is the most expensive option in the current virtual reality headset line-up, beating the £499 Oculus Rift and £350 PlayStation VR . But why the high price The HTC Vive offers an unparalleled experience by providing users with the opportunity to not only look around the virtual...
Please note that I am giving my review as a first generation product. It has its pros and cons. Initially when I traded in my entire game and console collection to get this, I thought I had made a mistake. However after using it for three days this this is really great.
It goes without saying that, at $799 (plus another $1,000 or so for a suitable PC if you don't have one already), Vive is not going to be for everyone. It makes Oculus Rift seem positively affordable, in fact , and PlayStation VR will be far cheaper, especially if you already have a PS4.
Brilliantly immersive; Can be worn at length; Plenty of good games
Neither cheap nor simple; Inevitably bulky & cumbersome; Very few great games
HTC and Valve are on a mission to bring VR to the front room, and the HTC Vive is the most expensive option in the current VR line-up, beating the £549 Oculus Rift and £350 PlayStation VR. Is the HTC Vive worth the £759 price tag? We've spent some time with the HTC Vive, and here's what we thought.
HTC Vive: Room-scale VR is an experience like no other, and nothing does it better than the HTC Vive
The best room-scale VR experience available; HTC is investing in the Vive ecosystem; Can be used either seated or standing
Most expensive headset on the market, Still aren't quite enough killer apps out there, So; Many; Cables
You could say revisiting our HTC Vive review eight months after launch doesn't make a lot of sense: Its hardware hasn't changed at all and its gaming library hasn't seen a dramatic overhaul. From another perspective, though, those are precisely the reasons to re-evaluate the Vive.
it's a wonderful bit of kit and while not perfect still blows anything else vr out of the water. feels surreal to use you have to try it to understand.
The HTC Vive offers the best in-home VR experience yet, but it's too unwieldy to truly enjoy for extended play sessions.
Sharp and incredibly immersive VR; Head tracking is superior to Oculus Rift; Whole-room VR is impressive; Motion controllers work well
Expensive; Tricky setup; Uncomfortable to wear for long periods
