If there's one brand that's synonymous with action cameras, it's GoPro . The company has completely dominated the market, with arguably its most important year-to-date being 2017.

It's safe to say the Hero6 Black is the best action cam GoPro has made. That doesn't necessarily mean it's the right one for you though. The new shooting modes are excellent, particularly if you're shooting for the big screen or have a penchant for dramatic slo-mos. But they don't come completely without cost. You'll need some recent laptop or smartphone hardware to edit the clips and they do take a bigger toll on battery life than full HD shooting. Even if you don't need to shoot reels of 4K, though, the Hero6's improved image stabilisation, dynamic range and low light capabilities make it a tempting proposition over the cheaper Hero5. If you want the absolute best action cam around, and are prepared to pay the £100 premium over its competition, this is it.

In these heady days of 4K drones, superhero VR games and watch-phones, action cams can seem a bit old hat.

Great potential but shoddy build quality

The GoPro Hero 6 offers typical high quality shots... when it works.I have had numerous issues from the very start:* The compartment flaps do not close firmly or seamlessly and require some wiggling to get them to seal properly.

Nice compact design loaded with features.

Upgraded from the Hero 5 mostly for the digital zoom option. crystal clear video and stills every time. A wide range of accessories make it a great camera for many applications. Threw it in my pocket and captured over 1000 images and a bunch of video on a recent vacation.

Dissapointed

Purchased GoPro Hero 6 as Christmas present for my son. First was returned because of faulty battery cover. The replacement will not charge, this was returned and the third camera is also not charging.
