GoPro has long been a dominant player in the action camera space, but of late, the company has been struggling with poor sales and has also dropped out of the drone market . VR is a new vertical for GoPro, and it's betting big on the Fusion, its new 360-degree camera.
High-quality 360-degree footage; Rugged and waterproof; Bundled Fusion Grip is handy; Overcapture works well
Fusion Studio software is glitchy; No built-in storage; Android support is bleak (for now; Expensive; Processing 360 video can be cumbersome
The Fusion's USP is familiarity. It is a GoPro through and through. GoPro Fusion also works great as an handheld device thanks to its stabilization algorithm. However, it does not natively stitch videos and needs an app on a PC to pull that off.
Can GoPro's debut 360° action cam bring virtual reality creation from a hobbyist niche to the mainstream
Over-capture mode; Full-featured apps and software; Rubberised & waterproof design; Two free microSD cards
Lacks 100fps slo-mo; 5.7K is now standard; Large physical size; No live-streaming; Constant connection issues
Bought for an Xmas present for the person who has everything, only had a quick look but seems an amazing gadget and I am sure he's going to love it!
I bought this camera a while ago, and it's a great bit of kit. Definitely a lot of fun for me and the kids. Works well, easy to use regardless of whether you've owned a gopro before or not. My issue with it is there's only about 10 phones that are compatible with the camera when using the app.
I had very high hopes with the Fusion. I am a google local guide so I only work with 360 cameras. The fusion does do a great job at taking videos and pictures, but that's where it STOPS. Starting off just to let you know I have a top of the line Mac Book Pro, just so you know what I'm working with.
Just shy of a year ago GoPro announced initial details around their consumer-oriented 360° action camera, Fusion. But it wouldn't be until this past November that the company started shipping the $699 dual-lens unit. Since then I've been using the camera in a surprising variety of ways.
GoPro may have jump started the action camera market , but the Fusion is different than all the GoPros that came before it: it's a true 360 camera. Instead of using a single forward-facing lens, its two ultra-wide angle lenses capture a full 360 spherical image of everything around it.
Bought this couple of weeks ago. Features are well ahead of other existing Gopros. A bit complicated to get started (although I'm using Gopro for 3 years now!). Too sensitive, because of heavy load battery drains out faster than other gopros. But overall an amazing product if you get used to it!
