The Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 may not be the most attractive lens around regarding its focal length but it is certainly a very capable performer. In terms of sharpness it plays in the highest league especially when stopping down a bit.
From the outset, Fujifilm has been very clear regarding its vision for its mirrorless system. Rather than try to provide an all-encompassing assortment of lenses, the company has focused almost exclusively on well-built, wide-aperture lenses with retro appeal and physical controls.
Fans of compact prime lenses are sure to be excited by the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 27mm F2.8 ($449.95 list). The slim optic is compatible with Fuji's X camera system, and it's slim enough that smaller bodies like the X-M1 and X-E1 can slide into jacket or cargo pockets when it's attached.
Very small and light; Excellent center sharpness; Classic 40mm-equivalent field of view
Soft edges unless stopped down; No aperture ring.
Gary Wolstenholme reviews the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 compact prime lens, with a field of view equivalent to a 41mm lens on a 35mm camera and a bright f/2.8 aperture.
Great sharpness in the centre; Good build quality; Low falloff and distortion; Low CA
Autofocus can hunt in low light and at close distances; Not as sharp towards the edges of the frame; Loss of contrast when shooting into the light
Fans of compact prime lenses are sure to be excited by the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 27mm F2.8 ($449.95). The slim lens is compatible with Fuji's X mirrorless system, making some of the smaller cameras available almost pocketable. It doesn't have an aperture ring, which will turn off some Fuji owners, but delivers strong image quality in a small package. It's a good lens, though not quite as good as the slightly larger XF 23mm F2 R WR, which is brighter and includes protection from dust and splashes for the same price. Design Let's talk about size—it's the XF 27mm's ($449.00 at Amazon) biggest draw. The lens measures 2.4 by 0.9 inches (HD) and weighs just 2.8 ounces. It almost feels like nothing when attached to your camera, and I was able to slide an X-E3 into the pocket of my winter coat with ease with the lens attached. There's no hood, although you can use 39mm front filters if desired. You can get it in black or silver. The angle of view is about 40mm, in full-frame terms, when p...
The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 27mm F2.8 is a tiny prime lens for Fuji X cameras. It's very sharp in the center, but edge performance isn't the greatest.
Very small and light; Excellent center sharpness; Classic 40mm-equivalent field of view
No aperture ring; Lacks optical stabilization and weather sealing; Focus hunts in AF-C
Handling and features This compact prime lens for Fujifilm X-series cameras provides a field of view equivalent to a 41mm lens on a 35mm camera and a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture and was introduced alongside the Fujifilm X-M1 camera, which is currently smallest X-series camera available.
The Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 is the most compact lens in the fledgling XF line-up and is therefore worthy of attention from anyone interested in using a small, discrete and lightweight camera system, especially when paired with the new X-M1 body.
A well-kept secret. Much, much better than you've been led to believe.
Small; Light - 78 grams! Autofocus is fast, accurate and decisive; Decent build quality; Doesn't feel cheaply made or in anyway compromised; Image quality is in no way inferior to my 35mm f1.4 or 60mm f2.4 macro, and this lens isn't the inferior kit lens many took it for when it was first released;...
No hood, and it needs a hood; Bought a nice vented type from eBay for very little - much, much better than anything Fuji offers; Usual price from a dealer here in the UK is ludicrous - £380!
Very similar to the lens on the well received Fuji X100F , this 27mm pancake lens is a great all-round prime. The 41mm equivalent focal length is suited to everything from landscapes to street photography, and Fuji has kept the weight down to a minute 78g, thanks in part to excluding a manual...
