Stunning wide-angle prime lens

I use this lens (in conjunction with a 35mm prime and a 55-200mm telephoto) on a Fuji X-T1 and it's fabulous. The only other equipment I need to carry is a set of ND filters and a tripod. I moved to the Fuji system from a Pentax medium format film system.

Durable; Great Picture Quality; Lightweight; Simple Controls

Fujifilm Fujinon XF 14mm F2.8 R

Wide-angle shooters should take a close look at the Fujifilm Fujinon XF 14mm F2.8 R. This lens is quite good, but it is priced accordingly. The 21mm-equivalent prime lens is one that isn't available in competing mirrorless systems-Sony, Samsung, and Micro Four Thirds shooters all have access to...

Very sharp; Minimal distortion; Manual focus clutch; 7.1-inch close focus; Compact

Lacks optical stabilization; Aperture ring too easily turned; Pricey

Fujifilm Fujinon XF 14mm F2.8 R Review

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 14mm F2.8 R ($899.99 list)($899.00 at Amazon) is a wide-angle prime lens for use with Fujifilm mirrorless cameras. It covers an APS-C image circle, which gives it a 21mm field of view in full-frame terms. That's a very wide angle, one that requires a trained eye to use effectively, and shooters who are lucky enough to be able to see in such a wide angle will be happy to know that it's impressively sharp from edge to edge, even at f/2.8. It covers a slightly wider angle than the Fujinon XC 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OIS($399.95 at Amazon) zoom, but it doesn't feature built-in stabilization like the zoom. For still shooters, stabilization isn't a major concern for a 21mm-equivalent lens. But if you're a frequent videographer you may prefer a stabilized lens, even one this wide. That would likely add to the size (and cost) of the lens. It's by no means a pancake, but its 2.6 by 2.3-inch (HD) size is quite small, especially compared with an SLR lens like the Pentax SMC ...

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 14mm F2.8 R is an impressively compact f/2.8 wide-angle lens with sharp optics.

Very sharp; Minimal distortion; Manual focus clutch; 7.1-inch close focus; Compact

Lacks optical stabilization; Aperture ring too easily turned; Pricey

Stunning wide angle lens

Fuji has always made stunningly good lenses. I have several large format Fuji lenses that just wipe the floor with any lens except those that are 4x the price (and beats a few of those too.) This lens, and pretty much the whole Fujifilm XF line, continue the tradition.

crisp sharpness; contrasty; flare resistant; light

not as wide as I'd like; bigger than you might expect

Fujinon XF 14 mm f/2.8 R

Currently (October 2013) the Fujinon XF 14 mm f/2.8 R is a lens with the widest angle of view in the whole Fujifilm line-up, giving a field of view on a level of 90 degrees. Although the X system is relatively young our choice of lenses is quite rich, mainly because of the support from devices...

Best wide-angled lens I've ever used

This is a highly priced lens that I reckon is not going to get much cheaper to purchase as the months and years go by. The reason for this is that it's absolutely superb in build and optical performance and is a joy to use. I've yet to read a single unflattering review written about it.

Great lens with unique manual mode

Well constrctucted, optically great lens. Small, but hefty, nice wide angle. Fast, I like fast. I really like the way you snap the focus ring back and forth to engage and disengage manual focusing. AF works well for a Fuji X camera, (not good at AF). Love the lens.

Optics; speed; and construction

Some people thing it is an issue that the lens converts to manual mode differently is a issue; I don't
