While Mario Kart will always be King of the Kart Racers, Crash comes in at a very close second place and one worthy of anyone with a PS4.
Difficulty, memorable track design, and addictive power-slide mechanic make it a kart racer more than worth playing.
Crash Bandicoot's time away from the spotlight also meant he spent time away from the stoplight. His post-PS1 descent into obscurity meant that most players weren't as likely to remember that the famed bandicoot was also as strong behind the wheel as he was behind a pair of platforming jorts.
Lush; vibrant visuals and delightfully cartoony animation; Modern controls that still feel like the original; Power slide boosting gives races more depth; Thoughtful mix of old throwbacks and new additions

The core gameplay is hugely enjoyable, with a powerslide system that's arguably better than Mario Kart; Tons of content, excellent graphics, and one of the only good story modes in the genre
Crash Team Racing was always very derivative; Track design is never as inspired as Nintendo's best and the gameplay never quite as accessible; 30fps visuals and online player limits are a shame
Just under two years ago, developer Vicarious Visions let loose the lovable but long absent Crash on the current console generation via Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy , a modernised overhaul of his first three outings.
