The latest EOS from Canon has been a few years in the making, but we're sure Canon users will agree it's been worth the wait. This model incorporates lots of contemporary technology such as Wi-Fi and touchscreen operation, as well as unveiling brand-new features like the Dual Pixel sensor, which...

Canon EOS 70D review

Canon has produced a very well rounded camera for enthusiast photographers. It has all the specifications that we expect, along with a few modern niceties in a body that feels well made and comfortable in the hand.

The Canon EOS 70D really is the "game changer" that Canon claims. Its new sensor and DIGIC 5+ processor really take it to new heights with outstanding performance, image quality and new video capabilities. It is well worth the money for a first or upgraded dSLR camera.

iAuto shooting mode is accurate and easy in all situations; Overall image quality is excellent; Live View AF is much faster than other dSLR cameras; Continuous AF works great for stills and video; 3.0-inch touch LCD is one of the easiest and most accurate to use; Outstanding shooting performance,...

Higher ISO settings were still very noisy; Just one memory card slot; Some aberrations in high contrast areas

Canon EOS 70D

We wanted to give the camera an image quality rating of 7.5; it's very good, but overall, not quite as good as the D7100, all things considered. It's unfortunate because the rest of the package - excellent autofocus system, streamlined shooting design and appropriate feature set for the price - adds...

New sensor delivers excellent autofocus performance and the camera itself is quite fast; Streamlined design; Feature set appropriately tailored to the target market

Image quality doesn't overly impress for this price class; Single card slot; Hard-to-control multicontroller; Wi-Fi/movie mode conflict

When all of the photography world was expecting an upgrade to the excellent 7D, Canon surprised us all by releasing an upgrade to the 60D the 70D, with a 20MP cropped sensor with a new dual-pixel CMOS AF system.

Canon EOS 70D Review

In addition to great stills and videos, Canon's new Dual Pixel AF technology is a real winner, garnering the EOS 70D an Editor's Choice Award.

Excellent enthusiast DSLR; Dual Pixel AF for movies a major improvement; High-quality stills; great videos

No AF Assist lamp on body; Wi-Fi implementation needs help; Bulky; but that comes with the territory

This is probably the last gadget review we do this year and what a rocking time we had with this camera. We got our hands on the Canon 70D to run it through our test bench. This is a no-nonsense DSLR from Canon, built to perform in almost any type of light setting.

Canon EOS 70D review

The 70D is Canon's best DSLR for ages. While its recent entry-level models have been near flawless in their own right, they've not really offered anything that might make compact system camera users sit up and take notice. But the 70D does exactly that.

Excellent new autofocus system; Superb image quality; Handy Wi-Fi and touchscreen

Bigger than a mirrorless cam; Expensive
