Mirrorless camera bodies are often quite compact, but when you attach a longer lens to them that size advantage is diminished. The Canon EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM ($349.99) is one of the smaller telezooms available for APS-C mirrorless systems.
Good center sharpness; Compact design; Image stabilization
Plastic lens mount; Some edge softness; Pincushion distortion when zoomed in; Dim corners when shooting Raw; Narrow aperture
This lens is the perfect companion to the new Canon EOS M50 camera. Instant focus, razor sharp, and light in weight. Great for a senior citizen like me. Thanks B&H for the great deal.
I have been using this lens to pull in images I had been wanting to get. From remote farm houses in scenic valleys, to herds of elk. I am very pleased with this lens.
The lens arrived early and was well packaged and protected. It is exactly as described and certainly enhances the capabilities of the Canon M3 at a reasonable price.
The compact size requirements of lenses dedicated to the EOS M series of cameras mean large aperture, super speed lenses just aren't in the recipe. Despite this short-coming, my EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM knocks my socks off! Tack-sharp and beautiful color rendition. Just hold it rock steady ...
I was really looking forward to getting this lens and now I am sorry I have. although it's very light, the construction is flimsy and the mount is plastic, not sure how durable it's going to be. Auto focus indoors is hopeless, it hunts and never really settles down.
Lightweight; Simple Controls
Flimsy Construction; Inadequate Features
Adding the 55-200 Zoom has completed my Canon M50 mirrorless set-up. I was tired of lugging my EOS 350 with its set of lenses so bought the M50 with the kit lens. I then added the pancake lens for street / landscapes and now this zoom for close ups and wildlife.
Canon's EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM telephoto zoom lens was first announced in June 2014 as a companion for the Canon EOS M camera that was released roughly two years previously.
I have had this lens a few months now and it is excellent in all respects. Very clear and sharp plus is a great balance with the camera.
