The EF 40mm f/2.8 STM is a fairly unprepossessing little lens, and its tiny size and relatively low price might make you wonder whether significant compromises have been made in its design and construction.
Pros:
- Very good optics
- Tiny size
- Silent autofocus
- Responsive electronic manual focus
- Decent construction
- Low price
Cons:
- Can be susceptible to flare
- No lens hood supplied
- AF speed isn't the fastest

Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM review
The EF 40mm F2.8 STM offers excellent image quality in a tiny, well-made package. For APS-C users it provides a great carry-everywhere complement to a kit zoom, and for full frame shooters it's an excellent general-purpose 'normal' lens. The STM motor means that autofocus is almost completely silent, but it's not super-fast.
Pros:
- Canon SLR owners who want the image quality of a prime in a tiny, relatively inexpensive package.
Cons:
- Photographers shooting in really low light or aiming for maximum background blur. They'll do better with a faster lens like the EF 50mm F1.8 II

Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM
The Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM is an appealingly simple, compact and capable lens that's equally at home on an APS-C or full-frame DSLR camera. It's also very cheap, making it a worthy addition to any EOS user's camera bag.

"True value for its Price"
The lens provides excellent auto focus for both video and still. I am using the lens in EOS-650D which gives an excellent clarity for portraits and closeups.
Pros:
- Fast / accurate auto-focus
- Nice Bokeh
Cons:
- Lens Creep

Real beauty
Worth every penny, chose this instead of 50mm prime. its fully worth of 2K extra money... suggest you to go for this.. it produces stunning pics at f/2.8 compared to 50mm's f/1.5

Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 Pancake Lens
The 40mm "pancake" lens from Canon is the first prime pancake lens that Canon has released. I purchased this lens about 5 days ago, and I took it with me on vacation to Asheville, NC. I used it to do some street photography on my EOS 70d.

I bought this lens as a walk-around lens. It is not as fast as my 50 1.2 but is much much lighter and most important, do not draw attention. It makes my 6D looks very discrete. It is also cheap for what it delivers.
Pros:
- Small
- light
- small and light again..
- Superb sharpness even wide open
- Don′t draw attention at all...
Cons:
- STM focus wont manually work in auto mode
- In manual mode still has an delay, You cant operate focus if camera is turned off or if the lens is detached, making impossible to retract the front element, It is quieter than old focus systems but is still audible

Great Little Lens!
This lens just arrived yesterday and I think it will be just perfect for my purposes. I wanted a small lens to put on my 60D that had a large aperture ,a close focusing distance and did a decent job of rendering backgrounds out of focus.
Pros:
- Easily Interchangeable
- Fast / accurate auto-focus
- Lightweight
- Nice Bokeh
Cons:
- Not Easy To Manual Focus
