The Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x is a long zoom lens with an integrated teleconverter, but its price is higher than competing lenses. Canon's EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x ($10,999) is a behemoth of a lens that ships in a hard carrying case. It's not a good choice for the weak of back, but its optical performance is superb, and an integrated teleconverter magnifies distant subjects without having to swap to a longer lens. If you lust after the depth of field control that an f/4 telephoto provides and you have a huge budget, it may be worth considering. But if you're willing to sacrifice some light-gathering capability, you can get a less heavy zoom that's also quite sharp for about a tenth of the cost.
